There is a wide variety of courses from which you can choose if you wish to study in Australia.

ELICOS

 

ELICOS, or English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students, are offered by a number of private, semi-private and government institutions in Perth. These courses usually comprise of 20 hours or more of classroom teaching and 5 hours of self-study per week.

Enrolment Dates


Elicos providers have several enrolments dates during the year which enables you to find the most convenient start date for your course. Most schools are very flexible and have enrolments dates every Monday.


Vocational Education and Training – VET


VET is general learning that has a vocational perspective. It includes elements such as generic employability skills, enterprise education, career education and community and work based learning.

VET courses are usually more practical and skilled based than theoretical, and are closely linked industry and the community to ensure the most up-to-date training. The qualifications are nationally recognized and are transferable throughout Australia and overseas.

Vocational Education and training courses are offered by the Technical and Further Education Sector (TAFE) – a nationally recognized government system of educational institutions – and by other private VET colleges throughout the country. Many vocational institutions have links and agreements with Universities. Through these links, universities offer up to one year of advanced standing into a Bachelor Degree as well as guaranteed entry into your course, as long as you achieve the required grades at your vocational institution.

NB. By studying for two years or more you may be able to gain migration points towards your permanent residency

  • TAFE courses are run from February to late November, containing two semesters per academic year. Some courses may have mid-year enrolments starting in July.
  • VET Colleges can have several intakes per year.

 

TAFE courses range from short courses of several hours up to three years full time study in more than 200 study areas. These courses are usually more practical and skilled based than theoretical, and are closely linked with industry and the community to ensure the most up-to-date training. TAFE qualifications are transferable throughout Australia and overseas.


UNIVERSITY COURSES

 

There are currently 5 universities in Western Australia offering courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Perth universities are highly respected around the world and if you choose to study at a Perth university you can be sure you are getting an internationally recognized qualification for a competitive price compared with courses in the UK or the US.

 

When do I apply?

 

The university academic years runs from early March to late November. Applications generally close in October each year however, some courses have mid-year enrolments in July. PhD students and research Masters Degree students may be able to negotiate an alternative starting date with their supervisors.
